But having been to Mountaineer when it was still the Waterford, to when the new hotel opened up, to now, it has declined greatly. I don’t know if it is a staffing issue or what. And bring over the age of 50, we got the room for $60 for the night. The staff allowed us to park our motorcycle under the entrance overhang, which was appreciated. The Big Al’s sandwich shop was great with good food at a good price. The motel and casino were not busy and the good feelings of my past visits were gone. Our room was also dirty, with furniture banged up, splash stains of some type of liquids on the wall, debris on the carpet. From the public areas and bathrooms, to the parking lot and landscaping, it was just dirty and kind of depressing. The biggest stand out from our stay is it is dirty. Overall this is a below average “resort”. The hotel offers all of the amenities you would expect from a Hollywood associated venue like 42-inch HDTV’s, wireless internet, complimentary breakfast, and shuttle service to and from the casino and raceway.As much as it pains me to say this, as I have been traveling to Mountaineer since I was a child (age 51 now), this resort has fallen upon hard times. Enjoy one of the fine restaurants, take in a show with performers like Eddie Money at the H Lounge, or enjoy your accommodations at The Inn At Charles Town, right on the property. Play at your own level and party like a Hollywood star whether you are spinning penny slots or get in on the big time jackpots in the high limit area with machines going up to $100.
